Leo Mitchell is a founding member of the United Friends of Highgate. A friendly, resourceful and self-confident individual Leo is well known in every sector of the Highgate community. Because of his contacts in the community; the considerate and straightforward manner in which he behaves; his dependability in keeping promises to the needy and his ability to observe simple as well as complex needs of the community in general, he was elected liaison officer for UFOH with responsibility to liaises between the Florida and Highgate chapters. It is through his efforts that the two organizations are able to communicate and coordinate their activities.
“My life is with the poor and forgotten people of the community in which I grew up. I know many of these poor people but more importantly they know me and have come to depend on UFOH”, Leo said, “I observe the poor condition of the police facilities as well as the need for safety on the streets and it engenders a deep feeling of urgency to take care of these things. I often experience a feeling of hopelessness when I realize that the most important need is money which is exactly what we do not have.”
